Clashes between supporters, opponents of president Morsi in capital's Manial district lead to death of twelve local residents.

Thousands of mourners from Cairo's Manial district joined a mass funeral on Saturday afternoon for victims of Friday's clashes between residents and supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi.

On Friday, clashes erupted between residents and Morsi supporters after Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie delivered a speech at a massive pro-Morsi rally at Cairo's Rabaa Al-Adawiaya Mosque.

The clashes led to the death of twelve locals.

According to residents, Morsi supporters started the clashes when they arrived from a pro-Morsi rally at Cairo University.

The mourners chanted, "Who will bring back the right of our children?" and "The Muslim Brotherhood is the enemy of God."

The clashes continued for more than four hours.

Locals accuse Morsi supporters from the Muslim Brotherhood of using automatic firearms. Residents also accused the police and army of failing to protect them.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Morsi supporters at Rabaa Al-Adawiya held a funeral for four of their number killed in Friday's clashes. Speakers described the four slain men as "martyrs for democratic legitimacy."

On Friday, at least thirty-seven protesters – from both sides – were killed in clashes countrywide, while at least five hundred were injured.
